The Umno MP alleged to have been questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has not been called in yet.

A source familiar with the matter however confirmed that MACC wants to have a chat with the lawmaker.

"The MACC has not called in the MP yet. But he will be called later to assist in the investigation," the source told Malaysiakini today.

The source also clarified that the case was not related to a probe into luxury hotels purchased by Felda in London.

"It's about a land purchase in Johor," the source said.

MACC investigations director Mohd Azam Baki refused to speak on these claims when contacted.

"No comment," he said curtly.

Yesterday it was reported that an Umno lawmaker, who is a director with a Felda subsidiary, was hauled in for questioning .

It was said to be over abuse of power.

Previously, the MACC probed Felda over the purchase of a multi-million ringgit boutique hotel in London.

In a written parliamentary reply, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low ( photo ) however later said the graftbuster had cleared Felda's management of alleged embezzlement over Felda Investment Corp’s (FIC) payment of RM538 million for the Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel .

On March 7, Malaysiakini reported that Felda Group chairperson Mohd Isa Abdul Samad’s son had been summoned by the graftbuster to record a statement over the hotel purchase.

Up until March, MACC had quizzed 23 people over the purchase of another hotel worth RM40 million in Port Dickson, including the CEO of a Felda subsidiary, and a businessperson.

The investigation was conducted under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, which criminalises the asking and receiving of corrupt gratification.

The CEO was arrested on March 1 and was remanded until March 10 while the businessman was arrested on Feb 26 and released on March 7.
