YOURSAY | ‘The PM has been dangling the hudud carrot in front of them.’

PAS wants to talk about 'no confidence' motion first

Quigonbond: PAS’ reaction to the no-confidence proposal is reflective of the psychology of PAS. They think that just because they are a conservative Malay/Muslim party, they should be the big brother entitled to PMship.

Even if this is the aspiration of Pakatan Harapan plus PAS, BN won't let it happen. Fact remains - BN has the majority of MPs and they are not likely to cede governance to the opposition (unity government) any time soon.

PAS should just agree to vote on a no-confidence motion and let BN decide who will be the next PM.

But I can venture a guess why they are attaching conditions. The PM has been dangling the hudud carrot in front of them for some time. That was the reason they dared to break ranks with their Pakatan Rakyat partners.

No other Umno-BN leader may offer them the same carrot again. In another words, PAS is not interested in removing Najib.

If there is to be a no-confidence vote, we can count PAS out.

Gggg: Expect PAS not to agree with the motion. It is not to their advantage to go against Umno as their future survival depends on Umno.

Tholu: PAS, you are not in Pakatan Harapan. You are a stand-alone opposition party now. Decide for yourself what you want to do with regard the impending tabling of the no-confidence motion against the PM.

Why has your decision on this matter got to be taken based on information and discussions with other opposition parties first? Are you not independent? Or have you no understanding of the federal constitution?

Do you realise that you have actually conceded to the fact that you have incompetent and unintelligible MPs in Parliament who do not know the functioning of a democratic political system?

If they know, they wouldn’t question the constitutionality and validity of tabling such a motion in Parliament. You are only fit to run a government based on Islamic tenets but unfortunately the majority of the people are against such a government, at least not for now.

Hmmmmmmmm: A no-confidence motion against Najib is not exactly what we want. If he is ousted, he'll just be replaced by somebody similar or worse. It's better to get the numbers to change the government lock, stock and barrel.

Bamboo: PAS is not sure whether to support a no-confidence vote against Najib, so it means PAS is okay with corruption-tainted Najib who allegedly pocketed RM2.6 billion of mysterious origin.

Is PAS truly Islamic by condoning corruption? No wonder PAS members are leaving in droves for Parti Amanah Negara.

Senior: Discussion (on the no-confidence motion) first? Was hudud discussed first (with then Pakatan allies)?

Malay dominance - a clanger raises its troubling head

Fairnsquare: The dominance of any majority race in a society is a given and would be illogical to challenge. Only when dominance is used to bully does it become a problem and must be challenged.

Any decent majority race will safeguard the interests of the minority and that would make them the moral champions and gain them the deserved respect.

Cheong Sai Fah: I am fine with dominance if it leads us to prosperity. But if dominance results in the nation sliding downwards, then we have a problem and should all be worried.

As Dr Agoes Salim used to say, "Malays can be dominant but not dominating." I am fine with that, too. Right now ‘dominating’ is more like ‘suffocating’.

The Analyser: One of the great ironies of Malaysian society is that despite vast differences in genetic makeup, the three major races are surprisingly similar in behaviour and attitude.

My thesis is that these similarities are based on the insecurity that is engendered in young Asians by their parents through a regime of obsessive imposed discipline, over-protection and over-controlling.

The secondary characteristics that develop from this insecurity are selfishness and its bedmate vanity, fear of trying anything new for fear of failure, lack of innovation and experimentation and a suppression of creativity.

Attempts to mask insecurity range from arrogance, the obsession with wealth as being the only measure of success, materialism, delusions of self-worth and delusions of one’s status in society and delusions of superiority, physically, culturally and intellectually. Lack of respect for anyone or anything but self. Saving face.

At the other end of the insecurity spectrum are those who are completely downtrodden and repressed and who become the whipping boys of the supposedly superior ones.

The people who cannot look you in the eye, cannot smile, are totally lacking in self-confidence and decision-making skills. Those people who are just waiting to be told what to do all because of parental repression.

The reality is that all three races are mediocre at almost everything they do. That is when they actually do something, because their morbid fear of failure limits entrepreneurship in almost every field of endeavour.

You liberally honour yourselves with awards, and loudly heap praise on even the most minor of your achievements. Yet you are so far behind the rest of the world in the uptake of new technology and new ideas.

Most of the praise for Malaysia is self-praise using terminology like ‘innate business acumen’ (there is no such thing... it’s greed), ‘hard working’. But are you hard working, do you work smart and efficiently or do you just work long hours?

Your chosen fields of endeavour are unproductive and consist largely of manipulating other people's money and other passive pursuits. Are the tasks you take on any more honourable than the work you allocate to those you think less superior to yourselves?

In summary, there is nothing superior about any of the races living in Malaysia. In the world you wish to emulate, your performance as a nation is way below average.

And it’s all because of your own attitudes that actively inhibit individuality and performance outside the limited criteria you impose on yourselves. Now start stoking your cannon with garbage.

Onyourtoes: Singapore ambassador-at-large Bilahari Kausikan, what are you talking about?

Basically you fellows just want a bunch of incompetent idiots to govern Malaysia so that Singapore can continue to benefit from it.
