PAS seems insistent on continuing its political cooperation only with PKR and not with its Pakatan Harapan allies DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

The Islamist party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said this in response to PKR's announcement that it will work to widen the membership of the new opposition coalition by inviting PAS, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and local parties in Sabah and Sarawak.

“We are still with PKR. At this moment, we are with PKR alone. As for the other parties, we have not decided yet.

“At this moment we have decided to be on our own but that doesn’t mean we are alone.

“Although we are not with DAP and Amanah, we might be with PKR and other parties,” Takiyuddin said when met by reporters at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today.

He pointed out that there were 20 newly-registered political parties as of today.

“We are not dependent on established parties,” he said.

He was also asked about Amanah communications director Abdul Khalid Samad's statement that PAS and other parties must be “disciplined and sincere” if they planned to join the new opposition coalition.

In response to his former party colleague’s statement, Takiyuddin sarcastically said that it was as though Khalid ( photo ) had declared himself the president of Pakatan Harapan.

“Maybe he has declared that he’s president of Pakatan Harapan. I don’t know what his post is. He could be the president.

“For him to put such a condition, he must be somebody in Pakatan Harapan.

“But for us, Pakatan Harapan is non-existent as far as we are concerned. Even though PKR is with Pakatan Harapan, our relations are with PKR only,” Takiyuddin said, adding that PAS would continue to have meetings with PKR.

On Sept 22, Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced the formation of Pakatan Harapan, which comprises PKR, DAP and Amanah. PAS has refused to join the pact.

Early this month, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man cautioned PKR that it could face a similar break-up like the Islamic party following the "hasty" formation of Pakatan Harapan.
