PKR's newest member Saifuddin Abdullah should learn the ropes of being an opposition man slowly, advises fellow former Umno member Zaid Ibrahim.
Zaid, who has been in both Umno and PKR, cautioned that it's not the same rodeo show.
"He (Saifuddin) has a lot to contribute but he must not be too eager, like me, to make Pakatan Harapan a success.
"The opposition is not as homogeneous as BN, so people like me and Saifuddin have to learn slowly," Zaid told Malaysiakini .
Zaid's and Saifuddin's tales are almost similar
A former law min
ister, Zaid was sacked from Umno in 2009 after attending opposition events and rallies. He joined PKR soon after.
Prior to his decision to jump ship today, Saifuddin (photo) was facing disciplinary action in Umno after he attended a roundtable where the second iteration of Pakatan was born.
Zaid's career in PKR, however, did not last long and he quit the party a year after joining. He claimed to have lost faith in the party leadership after what he charged were fraudulent party polls in 2010.
However, he's confident that Saifuddin will not be disappointed.
Saifuddin's 'hunger' factor
"Its good for him to join PKR if he still wants to be politically active.
"Will he be disappointed? I don't think so... circumstances may have changed. A different personality can be more suitable in a different situation," he said.
Asked what role Saifuddin could play in PKR, Zaid said that depended on how 'hungry' the former deputy higher education minister was.
Saifuddin joined PKR today, saying he was fed-up with how the government had handled the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion scandals.
