Saifuddin Abdullah's decision to join PKR comes as no surprise, since he has often been critical of the government on certain issues such as 1MDB.

The Umno man had even attended the roundtable discussion on the formation of Pakatan Harapan, the new opposition coalition sans PAS, which earned him a show-cause letter.

Commenting on his political migration, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang said the former deputy minister sent a clear message by joining PKR and not DAP.

And when a twitter user prodded him on when he would join PKR, Tan responded: "I would never join a party led by a convicted sexual offender."

"We should take care our back too. Friendly advice," he added.

Tan was referring to former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who is serving a five-year jail term for sodomy.

Anwar has claimed that the sodomy charge, similar to the first one, was fabricated by his political opponents but the authorities have denied this.

Meanwhile, BN strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan wished Saifuddin well with regard to his latest move.

"I wish Dato @saifuddinabd the best in his new political endeavor. This is a long overdue decision which everyone anticipated. Good luck," he tweeted.

Saifuddin, when speaking about his decision to join PKR, said his heart had steered him in this direction.

"In this issue, I don't know why but my heart steered me to PKR even though I know there are other parties who are doing an equally good job," the former Temerloh MP told reporters.
