Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem in the run up to a looming state election has asked Sarawakians to give him a second term in office, after which he reportedly said he will retire.

According to Bernama , Adenan said he had more plans for Sarawak and repeated his call to Sarawakians to give him one more term to continue leading the state.

"Give me a solid mandate and I give the assurance on the stability of the state, including more business opportunities for businessmen in this state," he said.

Additionally, The Star also reported him saying in the same speech, "So give me some more time so that I can complete what we set out to do for Sarawak.

"That is my only request. After five years I will retire. I'll be 76 by that time.

"That is all I ask from the people of Sarawak. Just think of what we can do together for Bumi Kenyalang."

Adenan said since he became chief minister replacing long-running Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is now governor, he had made 43 decisions including abolishing toll charges, reducing electricity tariffs and ferry fares.

He had also requested from the prime minister that the construction of the Pan Borneo highway be speeded up and construction companies owned by Sarawakians be given opportunities for the project which was expected to be completed in five years.

The CM was speaking at the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Award Ceremony 2015, Kuching last night.

'Give state cut of oil business'

Adenan also said he has asked Prime Minister Najib Razak for the state to get a piece of the state's petroleum sector controlled by Putrajaya.

"I have also asked the prime minister that Sarawak companies be given the chance to participate in petroleum and gas projects.

"The oil and gas is ours...it is mined in the waters off our state and because of that we (Sarawak companies) should be given the chance to participate in the sector," Bernama reported him saying.

He promised to continue with his policies to develop the rural areas in the state despite criticisms from the opposition.

According to Adenan, he will seek an additional RM500 million allocation next year from the state treasury for the transformation of rural areas.

Last year, his request for a RM500 million allocation, with an additional RM250 million later, was approved by the State Legislative Council.

Adenan said besides improving the infrastructure in rural areas, the allocation also provided business opportunities for 1,500 projects for Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the state, especially Class F and E contractors.
