Kit Siang's 'insult' drains cheer out of Pandikar

We can see that Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia was eager to kick out DAP MPs - Lim Lip Eng and Gobind Singh Deo - from Parliament, and now he threatened to punish Lim Kit Siang unless he apologises for the statement made against him.
Pandikar certainly has recovered from his ‘depression’ in May when he told Dr Mahathir Mohamad that he wanted to resign from his position because of the perception that the Parliament was seen as a rubber stamp for the decisions by the executive.
Apparently another reason for his anger was that his speaker room was too shabby and he felt embarrassed as he has to meet lots of VIPs in his room.
He then retracted his decision to resign. Pandikar, where did all the belligerence come from? Was it gratitude that the speaker room has now been upgraded and furnished like a hotel suite?
Aries46: When Pandikar is unable to justify his bias or irrational actions, he resorts to the big stick he reserves for the opposition.
He knew perfectly well why PM Najib Razak removed the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief and its three members and should have taken a neutral stand to allow the PAC probe to proceed with its deputy in charge.
The entire nation that had put its faith on the PAC probe felt betrayed by Pandikar and there were many unsavoury and insulting remarks, some even accused him of being a lackey of the Umno-BN regime and abusing his authority.
Honestly who gave him the right to freeze the PAC probe while the House was in recess unless he arrogated it to himself. So what is so wrong in Lim saying it aloud as he is merely conveying the general sentiment of the rakyat.
And threatening him with a motion against him amounts to sheer arrogance, plain bullying by the majority and deploying street justice in the House. Shame on you, Pandikar.

Ask yourself if you have acted fairly or not. As a speaker, you have the responsibility not only to the ruling party, but the opposition as well.
Issues raised by the opposition are done in the interests of the public and are no less important than that of the ruling party.
As an ordinary citizen, I have the perception that very seldom motions moved by the opposition are allowed to be debated.
Imagine the colossus 1MDB RM42 billion scandal is ruled not of pubic interests by Pandikar. Are you so dense that you cannot comprehend its seriousness?
Kingfisher: Every speaker in a normally boisterous chamber has an onerous role and this is appreciated. Every speaker has a set of rules to guide the conduct of his office.
All speakers should cultivate an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of enabling heated and even controversial discussions/debates that are often the characteristics of an elected chamber with parliamentarians with seriously opposing views.
This is the hallmark of a vibrant/healthy democracy. Much wisdom and an unbiased view of institutional memory would guide any speaker to embrace his role with equity and most of all common sense.
There should be no relent to a speaker's personal ego or bias in the "management" of the conduct of the chamber of elected officials.
And every speaker should be alert to neutrality of his office and prevent the abuse of his office by subversion of select individuals or groups.
There is little doubt that Pandikar is not endowed with a profound understanding of national interest.
Anonymous 747401433873803: I’m 100% sure the speaker, being the puppet of Umno, will suspend as many opposition MPs as possible before Budget 2016 is passed, and in turn before all important matters are tabled.
LifeFlier: Pandikar, you cannot be a referee while taking someone's side. The majority of people want to know why you deliberately stopped the PAC from sitting, with the apparent intent to sabotage its investigation.
The majority of people also want that motion of no confidence to be tabled and debated in Parliament. Are you representing people or your boss?
Tok Karut: Pandikar, stating a fact is not an insult.
Clongviews: BN MPs should move a motion to ban all discussion or questions on 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion issue to make life easier for the speaker and the backbenchers/ministers who have to apparently concoct answers.
Also opposition MPs can be saved from being ejected. And of course, the whole world will know how our Parliament works.
Simple Malaysian: The way Pandikar is going, soon there will no opposition MPs left in Parliament - all are suspended.
