Isa: Umno branches broke agreement in urging Najib to quit
The 13 Negri Sembilan Umno branches did not respect the agreement mutually agreed upon when they urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to step down as party president.
Telok Kemang Umno division chief Isa Abdul Samad said the Umno branches should have stated their views during the recent Umno delegates meeting, which agreed on unanimous support for Najib.
“They should have said that they did not support the president then and come up with such a motion, but no.
“What they have done is as though they do not respect the Umno mutual agreement,” he said, as quoted by Malay daily Sinar Harian .
Isa stressed they had all unanimously given their support at the Umno delegates meeting.
“No one said they didn’t support him (Najib). If they didn't, they should have said so at the meeting. Now suddenly they want the president to resign,” he said.
Admitting that they had a right to voice out their views, Isa however said they did so the wrong way.
“These people cannot be leaders because they don’t have principles,” he declared.
Isa meanwhile confirmed that the Telok Kemang Umno division is still supporting Najib as party president despite thirteen of its branches had called on Najib to quit as party president yesterday.
Taman TKK branch chief Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman, who headed the group, said the grassroots urged Najib to resign in order to save Umno from disaster at the next general election, due in 2018.
