An opposition lawmaker today alleged that Prime Minister Najib Razak allocated RM20.3 billion for the Prime Minister's Department (PMD) in his capacity as Finance Minister in maintain loyalty and support for him

Speaking during the debate of Budget 2016 in Dewan Rakyat, Khalid Abdul Samad (Amanah-Shah Alam) also noted that massive amount only showed that support for Najib had deteriorated.

"Is it because support for the the prime minister had dropped that the allocation had to be increasesd?

"So, will a large budget (be given next year too) to ensure continued loyalty and support?" he asked.

A number of MPs have voiced their concerns over the Prime Minister's Department's allocation which has grown almost threefold from RM6.9 billion in 2008 to RM20.3 next year.

Also speaking during the debate, Opposition Leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR-Permatang Pauh) questioned the necessity for such a large allocation.

Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping) meanwhile claimed that Malaysia had achieved a world record in having the highest minister to population ratio in the world.

"The Prime Minister's Department also set a world record for having the most number of ministers (in one ministry)," he added.

Najib 'greedy, without accountability'

In her speech, Wan Azizah (photo) argued that Najib's budget would make the rakyat poor instead of making them prosperous.

"This is his last effort to save himself.

“We shouldn't defend and keep an individual who is greedy and without accountability and who has sacrificed the interest sof 30 million people," she said.

"The 2016 Budget should be rejected.

“Pekan should resign as the prime minister, finance minister and the chairperson of 1MDB advisory board to restore the confidence of the people and the world before the our ship sinks," she added.
