It’s been three weeks, still waiting for PM to sue Ling

YOURSAY | ‘If someone calls me a thief in public, I would have no qualms suing him.’

PM to decide on suing ex-MCA chief in a day or two

Odin Tajué: PM Najib Razak, former MCA chief Dr Ling Liong Sik called you, or implied that you were, a thief. Publicly.

He said or implied that you filched public funds and put the money in your pocket/bank accounts. Publicly.

You gave him seven days to retract his statement, to apologise in a manner as per your conditions and to pay compensation to you, failing which you would sue him for defamation. Publicly.

Within less than three days, Ling said he would do nothing of the sort you asked of him. Publicly.

Three weeks - three weeks! - have gone by, but you are still mulling on whether to carry out your threat?

Procrastination can only mean either your threat was empty or you will not be able to prove him wrong.

People who make empty threats are cowards. Your inability to prove Ling wrong suggests that you are indeed a thief, that you have indeed stolen public funds and put the money in your bank accounts.

Now, we all know you are clean, that you have not done what he has directly or indirectly accused you of. So go get him, man!

Now, on the matter of your threat made against The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) when dinosaurs were still roaming this planet.

Since you have said that it would be a waste of time to take it to court only to find the court's judgment would not be enforceable should WSJ invoke the US Speech (Securing the Protection of our Enduring and Established Constitutional Heritage) Act, then take the newspaper to court in New York.

Malaysians wouldn't mind you making use of the government private jet and they will pay for all your trips. After all, they want to see their prime minister vanquish and demolish the evil white men and clear his name.

They want to see their brave Bugis warrior sail on against gales, heavy rain and mountain-high waves despite his sails having been torn into shreds and rudder broken and oars smashed.

If you baulk, it can only mean you are guilty of the misdemeanours implied by the WSJ's exposés and that you have no bollocks. Well, Bugis warrior?

2Kali5: If someone calls me a thief in public, I would have no qualms suing him. How can I face my children and friends after being branded so?

Res Ipsa: The PM now appears to have additional ammunition in the form of an application for summary judgment without the need for him to testify as a witness.

While this goes against the very grain and fundamental principle on an action in defamation, which any law student would be able to tell you, such an application has already been filed against Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming recently.

It would be interesting to see how the judiciary deals with this application where the norm would be to throw it out and fix trial dates.

However, if it is allowed to succeed on some special ground or inherent jurisdiction, the flood gates are going to open for everyone, including Ling, to get swept away by the floodwaters.

RM2.6billion Duit Haram: Before issuing a threat to sue Ling, Najib must have thought very carefully.

If truly he is clean, there is no more second consideration - sue Ling right away after the latter stood by what he said.

So now, Najib, what choice have you? Not to sue would simply mean that you are what Ling says about you.

To go on with the suit would simply mean that you and your beautiful wife might have to be grilled on the witness stand.

Knowing the coward that you are, the thought of being interrogated in and out by top legal eagles Ling is expected to engage would send chills down your spine.

Anyway, as a PM, you have no choice but to sue Ling.

Anonymous_4031c: It’s good that the PM will sue to clear his name and that he will be a witness in the process to answer some simple questions which will put to rest so many doubts about him.

The cybertroopers who constantly reminded others of the PM's good track record should make an effort to remind Najib to do so as it will clear his name.

Gaji Buta: Why do I get the feeling that all the books are currently being re-done or re-cooked, and once this exercise is complete, they will say 'look, there was nothing wrong', and proceed to sue the accusers.

What else can explain this buying-time strategy?
