MACC’s statement a glimmer of hope for Malaysia?

YOURSAY | ‘Raja Petra, quaff your ales, the man may soon announce, ‘Time, gentlemen’.’

MACC: We're not out to get Najib but RM2.6b merits probe

Vijay47 : The first and bigger question here should be just who is this Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) that his comments and queries warrant honour and answers.

Granted that he writes well and even argues well but whatever respect and following he had earned went out in flames when the nation, at the crossroads of change, was betrayed by this man who revealed himself to be nothing but a cunning opportunistic traitor.

And he now dares return to speak of what is right, what is wrong, his 30 pieces of silver jingling in his pocket?

And as to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), its constant pledge that the RM2.6 billion case merits investigation is another wasted public relations exercise. Yet to support this same MACC, what is wrong should its objective indeed be to give the confidence that emperor or mendicant, prime minister or mere worker, all are equally accountable before the law?

Forget it, Raja Petra, just savour your fish and chips, quaff your ales and bitters, to your loss the man may soon announce, "Time, gentlemen".

Anonymous_1421806811 : It is surprising that RPK's comment deserves a comment from MACC. I have read some of RPK's postings and I am always intrigued by his claims to have sources deep inside government circles. Suddenly he has become pro-government but that's his problem.

Malaysians in general do not buy the story that that the RM2.6 billion is a personal Arab donation to Najib Abdul Razak. The general belief is that the money is from 1MDB that went through an intricate web of money transfers internationally.

I sincerely hope MACC will continue to investigate without fear or favour and if there is any wrongdoing, the people responsible be brought to justice.

Unafraid : If MACC strategic communications director Rohaizad Yaakob means what he says, then there is a glimmer of hope for Malaysia. Till now, almost everything in this nation is tainted and corruption is systemic in the life of this country. So Rohaizad brings a breath of fresh air to all of us. Please carry on the good work and probe the RM2.6 billion issue till the bitter end. The rakyat is 100 percent behind you.

Mushiro : Najib made a statement about two months back that MACC has already cleared him of the RM2.6 billion donation. Rightfully such statements should be made by MACC.

But the MACC No 1 did not make this statement and the MACC No 2, too, did not make such a statement. Can Rohaizad clarify who made this statement?

Everything about 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion donation is always at the investigation phase either by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), attorney-general (AG), Special Task force or even MACC.

None of the investigations reports have seen the light of day and some of the investigations have mysteriously stopped. Why is MACC dragging its feet on its findings on 1MDB and the donation?

Dont Just Talk : MACC, can you name any country in the world, where the leader can get off the hook with US$700 millions wired into his personal account? If Malaysia aims to be a developed country by 2020, just do the right thing by charging the 1MDB PM Najib, after all, polices officers and navy personnel have been charged over much lesser amounts.

Hamzah Paiman : To counter every article posted by RPK effectively, people should set up special Anti-RPK websites. I think there would be tremendous response to it. So far we don’t have any, so the powers-that-be keep believing this spinmaster. He has to be immediately countered and things have to be set right on the spot.

CHKS : MACC, we are not expecting you to "arrest" Najib; but at least summon him for questioning. At least do that. Prove that RPK is wrong.

Odin Tajué : Yes, yes, Rohaizad. Now when are you fellows going to summon Najib to your office for questioning? Surely you don't want to wait till the Second Coming, do you?

I and very many others refuse to believe that the US$681 million paid into his private bank accounts was a donation. The claim that it was a donation is simply pure poppycock. Next, RM50 million taken from SRC International, with RM8 million stuck at Ihsan Perdana and the balance also put into his accounts, must be returned - and returned with interest.

Haveagreatday : The MACC responding to RPK shows a raw nerve was touched! Yet the fact of the matter is that RPK is now the mouthpiece of the regime - his words are without any worth!

Sali Tambap : "Public confidence level increased from 31 percent in 2009 to 68 percent in 2014." Huge claim indeed. However, anybody can quote figures, too. It is not so much the figures but rather how comprehensively and accurately it is reflective of the survey that the figure represents.

In any case, as long as the big fishes are seemingly escaping the dragnet, the figure quoted is just a mere figure. Unless it is all right to carry millions in cash, donated or otherwise, around the airports of Hong Kong or Singapore, MACC still has much to prove itself.

The 1MDB case is one such opportunity where the MACC can really redeem themselves in the eyes of the public. Quoting figure is just like blowing one's trumpet without asking for the judgment of the listeners.

Send In The Clowns : MACC’s statement, "We're not out to get Najib" was both amusing and remarkable. Isn’t the law there to punish criminals? A reminder to MACC is appropriate: No one is above the law, not even the Bugis emperor.

Righteous : MACC is an endless storytelling and actor-changing outfit. They have all the facts, figures and proof, yet they have a ‘who is going to bell the cat?’ mentality. Wasalaam.
