Prove opposition shortcomings by their spats, Umno told

Umno should exploit the spats involving DAP, PAS and PKR to prove to the rakyat how the opposition is nothing but inconsistent in its struggles.

As such, Cheras Umno division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee believes that the spats among the three parties would only be advantageous to Umno and to the BN as well.

“We should take advantage of their spats, use them as good as we can so that the rakyat realise the opposition’s shortcomings," Syed Ali said in a blog posting today.

And one of the ways to do this, he said, is with all the party’s wings being more proactive in attacking the opposition through social media, just like how they (the opposition) have done against Umno.

“If these (spats) happened in Umno, I’m sure the social media will be their main channel to spread slander against Umno.

“We should not necessarily spread slander like them, but we must be more aggressive in exploiting the issue so that it would benefit the party," he said.

Syed Ali added that the rakyat were more attracted to sensational news and as such, it was the responsibility of all Umno members to clear such negative perceptions.

Opposition cannot administer country

The Umno leader also questioned how the opposition could administer the country when it was fighting among themselves.

“They fight among themselves. DAP, as the ‘big brother’, wants PAS and PKR to follow its lead; the DAP, which is known for its racist politics,” he said.

The spat involving DAP and PAS is clearly not new, for they had cut their ties with each other after the PAS’ muktamar in June.

A new opposition pact, Pakatan Harapan, was then formed, which PAS is not part of.

Yesterday, a Selangor DAP candidate called for PAS’ ouster from the Selangor state government.

The delegate said this is to break a political deadlock over the ad-hoc PKR-DAP-PAS coalition in the state.

However, Selangor PKR defended the continued presence of PAS state assemblypersons in the state government.

The state’s PKR information chief Shuhaimi Shafiei said this was for the interests of the opposition pact.
