PSM has set its sight on banks as it tries to fend off the auctioning of houses purchased with loans.
PSM central committee member S Arutchelvan yesterday intervened on behalf of M Ravi, a disabled man, as he led a protest at a bank's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Ravi, a former bus driver who can only walk on one leg due to an accident while on the job, is facing the auction of his house by Nov 18.
"How is it that you want to auction the poor man's home?
"He lives off only RM200 a month from Social Security Organisation (Socso) funds.
"He has three children to support and the eldest already had to stop school as they could not afford to support him," said Arutchelvan.
Arutchelvan urged the bank to show its humanity by aiding Ravi ( photo, with wife and a daughter ) as part of its corporate social responsibility.
He later met with the bank's management, which gave its assurance that Ravi's house would will not be auctioned off on Nov 18.
"They said the bank is not a cruel bank and they would look at how insurers can help cover the loan," he said.
Arutchelvan is expected to lead a protest against another bank in a similar case later today.
