Clear your name in court, veteran journalist tells Najib

Former New Straits Times editor-in-chief Abdul Kadir Jasin suggested that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak clears his name in court.

Kadir said this was because of the assertion by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad that Najib should be charged with sabotaging the Malaysian banking and financial system.

Kadir said since Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak in his response to Mahathir had failed to offer solid explanations to rebut the former prime minister’s allegations, he (Salleh) should advise Najib to take the matter to court.

“If indeed Mahathir’s allegations, which are shared by the majority of Malaysians, are indeed farcical, Salleh should prevail on the prime minister to clear his name in the court of law, instead of groaning and moaning about being unfairly tried in the court of public opinion,” Kadir said in his blog posting.

“He (Salleh) should use that special relationship to advise Najib to either sue Mahathir or instruct attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali to take the SRC International case to court (against Najib).

“Najib should have no problem submitting to the country’s judicial system in order to clear his name, once and for all,” he said.

The veteran journalist said Najib surely has enough faith in the country’s judiciary to give him a fair hearing as all that he and his brilliant lawyers have to do is raise reasonable doubt against the charge to go scot-free.

Kiling three birds with one stone

Kadir pointed out that even Najib’s lawyers want him to file a defamation suit against The Wall Street Journal in Malaysia instead of in the US, where the newspaper is based.

He added that Najib should start the ball rolling by submitting himself to a Malaysian court to clear his name over the corruption allegations involving the SRC International money once and for all.

“In that way he could clear his name and prove once and for all what a big liar Mahathir is.

“He would be killing three birds with one stone – clearing his name, discrediting Mahathir forever and bringing back confidence in his administration, which his own brother said is lacking,” Kadir said.

Najib’s younger brother Nazir has posted on Instagram that it is tough promoting Malaysia due to the 1MDB fiasco.
