M'sia's Vanuatu graft clean-up a farfetched dream
YOURSAY | ‘Don’t expect the Vanuatu situation to happen in Malaysia.'
Malaysian government a sick joke
Legit:
In the Vanuatu case, they have a good and honest prime minister who came back after some health problems to find that the deputy prime minister, who was acting prime minister during the former's absence, had pardoned himself and his cohorts for taking huge bribes.
So he acted and got the judge to convict the wrongdoers accordingly.
In Malaysia, we have a prime minister who faces serious allegations. But the heads of key institutions in the country and most of cabinet ministers, the parliamentary speaker and Umno warlords have all pawned their principles and religious teachings.
Furthermore, the Malaysian political system has been so mangled that all the powers are concentrated in one man, i.e. the PM. So the Vanuatu situation (where 14 ministers and MPs were sent to jail for corruption) will never happen in Malaysia.
Malaysians may have to resort to a different option if they want to put their country right.
Existential Turd: Najib, Umno, the cabinet, Parliament, BN, the judiciary, the Attorney-General's Chambers, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the police force, and the civil servants are all too interconnected and entrenched.
You cannot bring down one without bringing down the entire structure. It is wishful thinking that all problems would be solved if Najib is deposed.
If Mahathir is really concerned about the fate of the country, he should come clean, blow the whistle and admit to all the wrongdoings under his watch and submit himself to the judgment of an independent judiciary.
Of course, Mahathir is not that noble. What goes around comes around. That is the bane of living long enough to see the fruits of his destruction. All that glimmer and glisten were built on rotten foundations.
GE14now: If the Malaysian government was only a sick joke, we could still probably stomach it. But it is way beyond a sick joke.
It is a corrupt, greedy, power hungry dictatorship run by idiots who spout all sorts of nonsense while thinking that they are really very smart.
The tragic part of it is that they are not, and they still do not know it.
CQ Muar: The effort to dislodge the present government under Prime Minister Najib Razak is a near impossible and an uphill task.
Even the once-dreaded former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad has acknowledged that Najib won't be easy meat.
Given the rampant corruption amongst all the ministers and leaders, it is equivalent to battling an army. Coupled with awareness of their avarice, money is all it takes to entice them in rendering the needed support.
To bring down and vanquish the whole battalion is akin to throwing an egg against a wall. As for calling for the outlawing of money politics, this had been inexhaustibly envisaged, and futilely attempted.
Thus, to emulate Singapore will be incredulous. Hoping for a miracle like Vanuatu to happen is a farfetched dream. Nevertheless, nothing is impossible.
Transformation in this country will only occur and be realised the day Malays wake up to reality and the scourge.
Just a Malaysian: In spite of Rukunegara's 'Kepercayaan Kepada Tuhan' (Belief in God), none of our leaders is god-fearing.
Anon1: BN has to fall (for change to happen). And even after that, it will take a few more years to get rid of the corrupt civil servants and clean the judiciary.
Until then, this rot and tyranny continues.
'Pesaka can be deregistered for politically-motivated rally'
Shamu99: You are right, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the National Silat Federation's (Pesaka) rally was a politically-motivated rally and you should suspend them for such an act.
Because if they can do it, so can the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) or Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) organise such rallies.
Khairy, take action if you mean it. Don't just talk, please.
Pakman: Why no still action against Pesaka? The fact is such activities are supported and encouraged by the PM and certain Umno leaders.
Freethinker: Khairy, have you got consent from your master for this statement, as your master had openly endorsed the rally and announced the group as the country’s third line of defence (apart from the military and the police).
Weren't they the ones who declared they would take up arms if they are "challenged"? Although I am not sure if they meant mentally challenged, or verbally challenged.
MacMac: Rubbish, all Khairy can do is talk. Expect ‘NFA’ (no further action) against this group of troublemakers.
