When religion is politicised, it’s to seek total control
YOURSAY | ‘The fanatics are the real sinners because they try to play god.’
A Muslim's lifestyle is personal, not gov’t matter
Headhunter:
The trouble is that those who are always imposing their beliefs on others do not practice the same on themselves.
And there seems to be no end to their pronouncements or edicts which comes one after another, almost on a daily basis. I pity our Muslim brothers and sisters who have to grit their teeth and bear it all the time.
Religion, no matter from which particular belief, is something personal between you and your god.
It’s people like them who are the real sinners because they try to play god by imposing their own personal belief on others and sometimes they are way off the mark. Personally I find such people very offensive.
Angry Citizen: Well said, G25 member Tawfik Ismail. If I were to publish what is said in my WhatsApp group of ex-schoolmates - the bulk of whom are Malays (and Muslims of course) - the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) would have a field day chopping off hands and castrating them.
Sexual innuendos and banter fly back and forth ever so often, but these 60-something-year-olds led useful and responsible lives and to think that they should now go and cower so as not to get onto Jakim's radar is unacceptable.
But the day Jakim comes out against corruption and daylight robbery of the rakyat's monies, then I shall expect my ex-classmates to speak out too against this scourge because now I don't see them having the scrotal gumption to do so; the moment Umno's grand larceny comes up, they go silent.
Where is the Malay Muslim sense of propriety and dignity?
Fair Play: When religion is being politicised by politicians and religious leaders, the end result is to seek total control, both physical and mental, of their followers. History had shown us countless examples.
Haveagreatday: Thank you, Tawfik, for informing the rakyat where Jakim stands in respect to restricting the Muslim lifestyle.
The sad fact is that in recent years this monster of the Umnoputras’ making is trying to control what non-Muslims can or cannot do as well.
Apa Nama?: Jakim is just another tool for BN to stay in power. They wanted to create a situation in which the rakyat would think if not for BN, Islam will lose its relevance.
But the worse people are those Umno people who you can find them frequenting bars, pubs, spas and massage parlour. And these people are saying Jakim is doing the right thing.
Ask Jakim to nab these folk and I bet they won't even dare to do it.
VP Biden: "Religion is a state matter according to the constitution and Jakim is an unnecessary expense."
That says it all, unfortunately our constitution is nothing for them and is being trampled upon daily.
Warrant Addict: Well said, Tawfik. No wonder nowadays no more P Ramlee movies are being shown on TV.
Carpe Diem: I have a friend in Jakarta who is a vice-president of a company that deals with Malaysian government-linked companies (GLCs).
There are frequent visits by various Tuns, Tan Sris and Datuks for ‘business-related’ matters. Let me just say that my friend takes his job title very seriously.
Palestine whips Malaysia 6-0 again
Send in the Clowns: Palestine, a war-torn country, hardly having enough food to keep their players standing upright, whipped the 'gallant' Malaysia 6-0.
Tell me it was not a joke. Perhaps, Malaysian Muslim footballers did not get 'divine' intervention.
Fair Play: Look at the bright side of life. Somebody got to lose by being thrashed. Malaysia just happened to have mastered the art of being kicked around like a football.
AJ: First of all, stop giving names like ‘harimau’, ‘jaguh’, ‘wira’, ‘satria’ or ‘perdana’. None of these names stood up to what they meant.
Names alone without the real power behind it just don't work. In fact, it becomes laughable. Losing to a country that is maybe too busy to play football is okay. But you must understand they do real zeal.
Free and Fair Election: In football, let the coach select, train and position players, not the committee which select players based on race. And please, no politicians and royalty should be in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
But Malaysia under BN will never change, not even after being trashed by worn-torn nations. Why should only the coach resign, the entire FAM board should resign, too.
Headhunter: Pathetic. What a waste of millions of ringgit that taxpayers have to bear. They should go back to basics by playing with kampung and school teams.
Our football is like our ruling politicians - corrupt, inept, thick-skinned and sinking to the bottom of the barrel.
Vijay47: I see the glass as half-full. Let us consider the business opportunities from just these two matches - with the huge surplus we have, we are in a very sound position to start exporting goals. That should surely make us even more famous.
Existential Turd: Dear PM, there are far, far more embarrassing issues confronting Malaysia than losing 0-10 to UAE or 0-6 to Palestine.
Democrat: It looks like Najib Razak's plea for more ‘donation’ went unheeded. Actually, they were beaten 6-0 twice. So it is a kind of 2.6.
