PARLIAMENT Cabinet minister Shahidan Kassim cited the recent terrorist attacks in Paris in defending the 'vulnerability' of Sabah's east coast, which is under the charge of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).

Marcus Moligoh (BN-Putatan) had complained the illegal immigrants were able to sneak into Sabah.

"Despite the existence of Esscom, there are still illegal channels for the people to come in.What can be done by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force?" he asked at the Dewan Rakyat during the question-and-answer session today.

Shahidan said Esscom was prepared to face the external threats, but there was no 100 percent guarantee that cross-border crime would not happen.

"This is the same everywhere in the world, they are facing this difficulty. As you know, France is one of the countries which implements tight security, but the terrorist attacks happened.”

The attacks in Paris on Friday night which claimed at least 120 lives, has been described as the deadliest violence that had struck France since World War II.

"It is extremely difficult to enter Sabah through Esscom, as we have a high level supervision system," assured Shahidan, who was puzzled at how illegal migrants managed to enter Sabah.

He, however, claimed the authorities have arrested the illegal immigrants.

When the detention centre reached its full capacity of 5,000, he said, the government would deport them.

He added that the government was planning to build two more detention centres.
