Minister’s overseas trip a case of follow the leader

YOURSAY | ‘Hello, you can't spend monies allegedly intended for charity for such trips.’

Jamil Khir denies abusing funds for orphans

Vent: If anyone expects Minister in the PM’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom to take these allegations sitting down, they are mistaken.

Why should Jamil Khir, an Umno minister, be accountable to anyone, leave alone some orphans who are lucky to be alive and well.

The temerity of National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) director Akmal Nasir to even classify it as a “misuse” of funds.

Jamil Khir’s trip to the United States was “upon the invitation by various agencies under his purview” (read: under his control). So what could be wrong with it?

And why all the hoopla over the RM274,493 tickets? After all, they are just a drop in the ocean compared to the RM2.6 billion that the PM received from his Arab brothers.

Not Smart: Jamil Khir, you are holding a very important portfolio which is guided by the principles of Islam. First, how does this activity in the US be beneficial to the orphans and poor children?

Of the 1,000 students in the US and Canada who attended the 'Mid West Game', how many of them are under Yapeim (Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation), i.e. orphan and poor?

If the event was also organised by the Malaysian embassy in the US and Education Malaysia Chicago, why there is a Yapeim payment voucher for this activity?

Based on this and in the eyes of the public, there is apparent signs of abuse of authority.

Jamil Khir, don’t use threat as your line of defence just like what the current government is practicing, i.e. suing whistleblowers rather than investigating the truth.

It would be only proper if you clarify the issue first before using threat as this would be an example of a true Muslim. There is a smell of a dead rat somewhere.

Headhunter: Jamil Khir, you should not be afraid to disclose the total expenditure incurred for the trip by itemising them, show the details of your daily schedule and the names of people or organisations that you officially met, including the people whom you play golf with, and the gifts that you received and gave.

Then we can start talking.

Odin Tajué: Jamil Khir, high class people like you and I fly on top-notch airlines and not on those that use old jets they bought second-hand from prestigious airlines, right?

Now, return First Class airfares from KLIA (Kuala Lumpur) to JFK (New York) for two adults on any of those top-notch airlines would be in the range of RM46,000 to RM50,000, right?

Yes, you went to Washington DC, Iowa and Minnesota, but the airfares I've mentioned ought to give us a rough idea of how much you would have spent had you taken along only your wife. Please explain how you have spent RM274,493 on airfares for the two of you.

Don't you think people would find it just a bit too convenient for the agencies under your purview to have invited you?

Anonymous 29051438068738: Great response Odin, as always.

In any case, I'm waiting for that old refrain about “enemies of Islam” - something that has become a magical incantation to snuff out any thoughts about possible abuse of public funds to enjoy the sinful pleasures only available in the land of the great American Satan.

Ipadder: Umno leaders are too thick to understand the concepts of governance and prudence that trustees and management of such foundations must practice.

Hello, you can't spend monies allegedly intended for charity for such trips. These are luxury trips and could have borne the educational expenses of many poor children or orphans.

Deputy minister wants MACC probe to clear Yapeim's name

Democracy: "Such claims must be viewed seriously by the management. I welcome a thorough investigation by the MACC to clear Yapeim's reputation as a charitable Islamic foundation aimed at economic generation," he said in a statement on his Facebook page.

This statement clearly shows that the deputy minister has already predetermined the outcome of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's probe.

He is actually asking for MACC to investigate to clear Yapeim's reputation as opposed to investigate to find the truth.

CQ Muar: What would we expect when even the top man is suspicious and being accused of criminal activities involving billions?

As it is, the entire nation is topsy-turvy in overcoming our difficult times, and here our leaders are grappling with endless accusations.

Thus, given such scenario, how much hope do we endeavour the nation to succeed making a turn-around for the better? Your guess is as good as mine.

Vijay47: What we are now witnessing is corruption spreading like a wildfire, with the perpetrators confident that going by present philosophies and examples, they need not fear nor expect any unpleasant consequences to their actions.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, you say "don't demolish the house".

Why preserve a building that is rotten to the core, ridden with insects and rats of the worst nature and ruled by a minister and senior management that don't bat an eyelid as they allegedly raid the coffers?

The profits earned by Ar-Rahnu (an Islamic finance company under Yapeim) mean absolutely nothing when it is apparent that the institution's funds and assets are used by officials and the intended beneficiaries, orphans and the poor, are left holding empty bags.

What on earth was a body, established to carry out works of charity in Malaysia, doing organising extravagant festivals overseas?

Even more shameful would be the fact that hardly any Muslim would condemn this; they would be too concerned with ‘halal shopping trolleys’.

Perhaps ‘kursus kahwin’ a cover for a junket to Paris
