PAS started it first, DAP tells PKR

DAP should not be blamed for its stance against PAS, because it was PAS who first declared war against DAP, its organising secretary Anthony Loke said.

Loke was responding to PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli who advised DAP to not be so confrontational against the Islamist party by contesting seats traditionally held by PAS.

"DAP is not confrontational with PAS but it is PAS' top leadership, including its president, who declared war against DAP when it announced it will contest all seats contested by DAP in the 14th general election.

"PAS also launched baseless attacks against DAP when its president accused DAP of trying to revive local council elections in order to make gambling and alcohol legal to Muslims," Loke said in a statement.

PKR has bilateral ties with PAS, while being a member of the tripartite Pakatan Harapan with DAP and Amanah.

DAP, PKR and PAS used to form Pakatan Rakyat, but the coalition broke up when DAP and PAS butted heads on the implementation of hudud.

DAP yesterday announced that it is eyeing the Taman Templer assembly seat.

It earlier said it is also looking at eight seats , now held by PAS in Selangor.

Rafizi said forcing three-corner fights only benefits the opposition parties' common enemy, BN.

However, Loke said the party does not reject efforts to ensure there are staight fights in the next general election, but this goal may be unrealisitic.

"Pakatan Harapan leaders must be realistic and wake up to the fact that PAS top leaders will not compromise with Amanah and DAP.

"PKR should understand this given that it has been betrayed by PAS, who contested seats earlier agreed should be contested by PKR in the 13th general election," he said.

He also claims that PAS has shown that is ready to aid BN, by abstaining from the Budget 2016 vote in Dewan Rakyat last night.

The Opposition bench hoped to defeat the budget to send a signal of no confidence to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

PAS said it supports a no-confidence vote against Najib, but instructed its MPs to abstain from the budget vote.

Three PAS MPs broke ranks to vote against the budget, while four other PAS MPs including PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was absent. The remaining seven abstained.

The Budget 2016 was passed at the policy stage by 128 votes to 74 last night.

The committee stage and final debates takes place today.
