Perak assembly sitting turns chaotic on MB Inc issue

Several state assemblypersons held up placards with words "Who owns PNB?', 'MB Inc is for whom?' and another in Chinese, believed to bear the same meaning, after the tabling of the 2016 Budget at the Perak State Assembly in Ipoh yesterday.

They held up the placards to voice their dissatisfaction because the Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) was not an issue raised for debate at the meeting.

The initially calm meeting became chaotic when the sounds of frogs were heard after state assembly speaker SK Devamany announced that there were four opposition parties in the assembly, now that Changkat Jering assemblyperson Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin had joined Parti Amanah Negara.

As such, Devamany said, there was a slight change in the seating arrangement in the opposition section.

He made the announcement before adjourning the meeting to tomorrow.

Menteri Besar Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir ( photo ) told a media conference after the meeting that the action of the opposition was very offensive and unparliamentarian.

Zambry said their action was to create a negative perception of the people towards MB Inc.

"By right they should have good qualities as leaders, especially the other two (Setiawan representative Ngeh Koo Ham and Kepayang assemblyperson Nga Kor Ming) who are Members of Parliament.

"It is not the way, they are as if equating MB Inc to 1Malaysia Development Bhd. Their intention is so mischievious to create the perception of the people. Whether it is true or false (for them) is secondary," he said.

Zambry said the opposition raised the issue of MB Inc because they wanted to shift the focus of the people from party hoppings by several PAS representatives, including Nizar.
