Opposition must rise above differences or lose voters

YOURSAY | 'We don't want an opposition that keeps bickering.'

PAS started it first, DAP tells PKR

Senyum Kambeng: It’s time to stop this immature politicking. This is like two kids abusing each other. All this does is to damage the opposition parties when they should be united in confronting a weakened Umno.

I, for one as a voter, will have to rethink whether the opposition parties can perform well at federal level. We do not want a coalition of parties that keeps bickering instead of governing effectively.

If they can't rise above their differences, they are just no bloody good.

Malaccan: PKR is harbouring hopes in its ally PAS to oppose BN. But the actions of PAS, apart from selected statements from its leadership, have been the opposite.

PKR's fault is that it is desperate for PAS to return to its stand as in the late Tok Guru Nik Aziz's days.

PKR needs to accept that PAS has changed and is currently controlled by its president Abdul Hadi Awang and his coterie. The central leadership, like before, has been allowed to say whatever is needed, but it will be ignored at will by Hadi.

PKR, in wanting to keep their own two-way alliance with PAS, cannot deny the right of others to see PAS as they are - untrustworthy.

PAS is obviously trying to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds, and will likely sidle up and mooch to the eventual winner.

Anonymous 1200411442374356: DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke, stop being childish.

You were voted in due to lack of capable candidates to choose from the opposition. So please stop behaving as though DAP is a mighty party.

Start thinking like a politician and work with PAS. Like it or not, that is the only chance to take Putrajaya. Give respect and you will gain more.

I really hope we have better choices in the opposition than this bunch. No wonder people continue to vote for BN because the opposition cannot prove its worth.

MA: DAP, or that matter every clear thinking politician in Pakatan, should not be afraid to correct the wrongs spoken and done by PAS.

Forget Putrajaya for the time being, get your house in order first.

Spinnot: Did PKR advise its partner PAS "not to be confrontational" with DAP when PAS declared it would contest all the seats contested by DAP in the 14th general election? No double standards, please.

Eyespye: I completely agree that we should leave PAS out to rot.

Nevertheless, DAP has to stop acting like a spoilt child, taking every opportunity to make snide remarks and hurl brickbats because "big, bad PAS called us bad names".

DAP MPs sound like children, not statesmen.

The Analyser: I know that facts are a bit confrontational to your delusions about yourself, Loke.

But it was Anwar Ibrahim's grab for the seat of Kajang which caused the coalition to unravel. Up until that event, the coalition was on shaky ground as it had been since its inception.

But when Anwar showed his hand in the Kajang power grab, the whole thing fell apart. And the usual Malaysian selfishness took over, showing how incapable of cooperation the races and religions are.

Basically it was all about Christianity versus Islam (call it hudud if you like) and it is DAP leader Lim Guan Eng that has kept the 'Hate Hadi' soup boiling because he now sees it as a way to attract disillusioned Malay voters.

In his self-delusion he has overlooked the depth of animosity between the Malays and Chinese, which will be the undoing of all his plans.

Wsoi: It's better to join BN than to have a coalition partner like PAS. PKR, wake up fast. You are self-destructing. We educated voters will never vote for PAS again.

You just can't trust a man who does not hold to his words in public; worse when he represents a political party.

Wong Fei Hoong: There are no two ways in politics. You are either with the team or you are out.

We do not need political parties which have no integrity, no backbone, and no substance. PAS should be rid at all cost from Pakatan Harapan. We have enough of their antics.

PKR is eyeing PAS seats in the next GE. DAP should contest these seats and not give in to PKR.

PKR is still in dreamland. Wake up. Forget PAS. Work hard for the Malay votes.

The Mask: PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, are you dumb or what? As Loke said, it was PAS who started it all. It was PAS (through Hadi) who went against the Pakatan Rakyat manifesto. It was PAS who voted to sever ties with DAP.

It was PAS who announced it will contest all seats contested by DAP in the 14th general election. It was PAS who refused to vote against the Budget. It was PAS who refused to vote PM Najib Razak out.

Rafizi, what else do you want? Hadi to kneel down in front of you to confess to all the above?

If you cannot see the monkey wrench being thrown by PAS every time joint action is taken against Umno, then you have lost all credibility to be the spokesperson for the rakyat.

Anonymous_1377321471: PKR please note, be it confrontational or otherwise, Pakatan Harapan has to contest every seat possible to get to Putrajaya. Any seat won by PAS or any other non-Pakatan Harapan coalition party, has nothing to do with Pakatan Harapan.

Be realistic now and build your strength from today, rather than having an untrustworthy mole hidden in your backyard.

Eyespye: Honestly, DAP, your responses have been childish. Have you considered hiring a PR agency, or forming a proper PR department?

Some of the statements and responses made, really sound like nothing a statesperson would say. They have been polarising, and belittling.

So what if PAS makes accusations or calls you names? If you responded firmly with dignity, without blame, and in the most professional manner, people will see PAS for the idiots that they are.

Right now, there are two idiots in the opposition camp. After the failure of opposing the Budget substantively, what's wrong with saying: "We will try to work closer with our coalition partners towards achieving our collective goal of ending our country's economic stalemate."

Instead of that, you said, "It's PAS' fault, they want to get in bed with Umno." Tell me I didn't vote for this stupidity.
