Nurul Izzah, Tian Chua slammed again for Manila meet

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was again condemned today for her recent meeting with self-styled Sulu "princess" Jacel H Kiram, while Batu MP Tian Chua was blasted for his alleged role in masterminding the meeting in the Philippines.

The attacks came from Umno Cheras division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee in a posting on his blog, in which he claimed that the Nov 9 meeting was a planned agenda and done despite knowledge of Jacel’s links with the Lahad Datu incursion tragedy.

“So, whatever the reasons they gave, or denials they have made, the rakyat is hurt and anger cannot be contained,” Syed Ali said in pointing out that the actions of Nurul Izzah and Chua were tantamount to recognising the rebel force that was responsible for the deaths of nine Malaysian soldiers.

As such, he said, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s revelation yesterday that Chua was responsible for setting up the meeting in Manila should be taken seriously by the authorities.

"Tian Chua is the person who arranged the meeting.

"Tian Chua is responsible for carrying out this subtle move to connect with what is called the Sulu sultanate, which purportedly wants to reclaim its territories up to Sabah," Zahid declared.

In supporting Zahid’s stand, Syed Ali said any meeting with parties that threatened the nation’s sovereignty should be seen as an act of treason.

“In my opinion, this (the meeting in the Philippines) is a subversive act and they should face action under the law. Mere apologies are not enough because their honesty and sincerity are still questionable,” he said.

Yesterday, Chua described Zahid’s accusations as “wild and baseless” but the home minister refused to apologise and told the PKR vice-president to save his denials for the police and courts.

Nurul Izzah has expressed regret over the incident, but insisted that she had never requested for the meeting with Jacel.

Jacel is the daughter of self-declared Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III, the man who in 2013 ordered the failed Sabah incursion so as to claim the state as part of his "sultanate".

On Sunday, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said Nurul Izzah could be investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) and Section 124 of the Penal Code for treason.
