'Muhyiddin, Mahathir keep raising same old issues'

The issues raised last night by Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad are the same old stuff they have been raising the past year - and all of these have been answered.

"There is really nothing new that the speakers had to say, other than what they have already said many times.

"And all these issues have already been answered, but still they keep raising them," Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said in a blog post last night.

It seems that the speakers are not interested in the replies given to their questions, Salleh ( photo ) said, even though they keep insisting on getting answers.

"When replies are given, they ignore the replies and keep asking the same questions again and again," he said.

Salleh cited the example of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission responding that it has already issued statements regarding 1MDB.

The speakers are also inconsistent in their arguments, he said.

How is RM2.6 billion an act of terrorism?

He noted that Muhyiddin and Mahathir had described the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's accounts as corruption, but were now calling it terrorism.

"To suggest that Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) be used against Najib is abuse of that anti-terrorism law.

"In what way is 1MDB or the RM2.6 billion an act of terrorism?" he asked.

What the speakers really wanted, he pointed out, is for Najib to resign or to take leave while the investigations into these two matters are ongoing.

"They even suggested he (Najib) takes leave and comes back later as prime minister once he has been cleared, which is not at all practical.

"This is not about seeking answers regarding 1MDB or the RM2.6 billion donation. If it is really about answers, then the answers have already been given," Salleh said.

On Monday night, prior to Umno's annual general meeting which officially opens today, more than 1,000 people turned up at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, to hear Muhyiddin speak.

Mahathir and Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal were also present.

Against normal practice, Muhyiddin has been barred from officiating the AGMs of the Umno Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri wings today.
