'Better to lose Putrajaya than to tango with PAS'

YOURSAY | ‘I'd rather lose than win with PAS because they can never be trusted.’

Rope in PAS or risk losing GE again, Rafizi cautions

Existential Turd: PAS is a wolf in sheep's skin. Already they have indicated they do not object to forming a unity government with Umno.

PKR will rue the day it plunges headlong with PAS. PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli has demonstrated he/PKR is either too obtuse to learn from past mistakes, or too Machiavellian to care about principles.

Political strategies may win you short-term skirmishes, but it is principles that will win you a war.

SusahKes: I read the Malaysiakini interview with Rafizi, but all I see is a hazy vision. As it stands, even when the relationship amongst the original Pakatan trio was at its peak, there was still friction and tension among them.

Voters who supported PAS and PKR, based on Pakatan's GE manifesto, have seen how things have turned out since. With that, Rafizi and PKR now wish to propose an even more ice-thin alliance with PAS?

Even if the aspiration was to finally unseat Umno-BN at Putrajaya, would PKR succeed, or what if PM Najib Razak manages to secure PAS' cooperation in the next GE? What about hudud?

This is not going to work. And I won't be surprised that even hard-working PKR MPs are going to suffer the backlash. A better bet would be for Pakatan to ramp up support for Amanah.

Opah: PAS has made its intention crystal clear. It wants to be the kingmaker. It wants to be part of the opposition coalition in order to win seats in Parliament but after the election, it will sell itself to Umno.

Even if Pakatan Rakyat had "won" GE13, PAS would have pulled out and formed the federal government with Umno. I am very surprised that Rafizi cannot see this.

Bamboo: With PAS in, even if Pakatan Harapan wins in GE14, PAS will be a troublemaker. It is best to work for the long term with the more reliable Amanah.

And PAS might get some Malay votes, but PAS is definitely not getting Chinese and Indian votes. So PAS is not a net vote-getter.

Citizen No.26: PKR, please be realistic and move forward without the back-stabbing PAS.

Forge a strong relationship amongst component parties of Pakatan Harapan. Help build Amanah to challenge PAS. Focus on Sabah and Sarawak to win GE14.

There is no time left and stop wooing the treacherous bride (PAS). Come to your senses now before it is too late.

Wg321: Did Rafizi find out whether PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang agrees that Anwar Ibrahim should be the prime minister if the opposition wins in the 14th GE?

Besides, Hadi Awang and his ulamas already declared that the ultimate aim of PAS is not to win over Putrajaya but the establishment an Islamic state.

He will forgive Najib for his corruption if Najib agreed to support the implementation of hudud.

Anonymous 403201442802942: What is the point of winning Putrajaya with a party that has shown itself that it can abandon friends to cooperate with enemies just so that they can gain something they hanker after.

Imagine PAS winning enough seats in GE14 with Pakatan Harapan, but then abandon the coalition to form the federal government with Umno-BN.

Gunnerrun: With Hadi Awang at the helm, PAS is an extremist party with fanatical ideas. Time and again, he has allowed his ego to get the better of him. He has betrayed every trust put on him and is even willing to walk the plank with Umno if it means he gets his way.

The problem is that non-Muslims have big difficulty with and accepting some of his ideas. Is Hadi Awang moderate, can he be tolerant? The answer is no.

People of the same religion is the ultimate he seeks to unite so that they can carry out the mission he feels he is entrusted with on Earth.

Legit: PKR should come out of its preoccupation with PAS. Instead, there are many other strategies that it should work on before GE14.

For example, PKR and Amanah should focus a big part of their energy in converting the rural Malay support from Umno and PAS to Amanah and PKR. PKR and Amanah do not have to focus so much on urban voters as these voters, irrespective of race, generally do not support Umno-BN.

Secondly, the Sabah and Sarawak constituencies are very critical as they are BN's support base. PKR, Amanah and DAP should try their best to win over many of the Sabah/Sarawak parties to join Pakatan Harapan.

They should also spend a lot of their effort to win over the voters in these two states despite this being a challenging task. They have to do it or Pakatan will lose the general election.

Ferdtan: I have been a hardcore opposition supporter as I believe in a two-party system. To change the failed system of administration of our institutions, we need to replace BN with a new government.

Changing its PM (within BN) will not make any difference at all to the current sorry state of affair.

However, that said, it does not mean that we must win Putrajaya at all cost. BN have been ruling over the last five decades so what difference does it make if were to take a little bit longer to topple them?

By including PAS in the loose coalition when they are quite reluctant as their hearts are not with the opposition will not work. PKR, you are actually only postponing the problem.

What will happen if the opposition including PAS were to win Putrajaya, the bickering will inevitably start and they fall apart? Then the Malaysians will never trust Pakatan again. Why take such risk?

Rafizi, we don’t agree with you. It is important to choose trusted partners at the very beginning like any businesses, and not at the end, after going to battle together without sincere cooperation to win a pointless war.

If a PAS candidate were to stand in any of the seats in non-Muslim areas, be sure that they will not vote for them. Have PKR done the survey on the support of the non-Muslims for PAS?

The result will be obvious. Once bitten twice shy. We are no suckers.

Richard: Yes, I would rather lose than win with PAS because they can never be trusted. With Hadi and Harun Din controlling PAS, it is better to have a clean break.

N1: Even Pakatan Harapan were to win the election with PAS in it, the government will not last with Hadi Awang leading PAS. It is better for DAP and Amanah to start from scratch and build slowly knowing that it is impossible for the two parties to win GE14.

If PKR insists on working with PAS, the better option for the non-Muslims would be to ditch PKR. To the non-Muslim community, BN is safer that PAS under the leadership of Hadi Awang. PAS is not a real problem but Hadi is certainly a major problem.

Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan : Rafizi, it is better to lose Putrajaya than to tango with traitors.

Even though you might win the GE with PAS in partnership, it would eventually disintegrate, with Hadi Awang always dreaming of Najib. Trust Mohamad Sabu and his Amanah team, never PAS.

Rafizi is right, but can PAS be trusted?
