Parliament will debate and vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) in a special two-day session on Jan 26 and 27.

This was confirmed by Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee in an interview with Berita Harian .

"The way of voting will be decided when the special sitting is held," Kiandee was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.

The senate will then debate and vote on the agreement on Jan 28.

The TPPA is a multinational free trade agreement in which the United States is the main proponent.

Apart from the US and Malaysia, among the other 10 countries involved in its secretive negotiations are Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Mexico and Canada.

Putrajaya had commissioned a cost-benefit analysis of the agreement, the outcome of which an opposition MP had slammed as being shallow .
