MCA has requested the Japanese government to make a “goodwill payment” to Malaysia over the suffering of local comfort women during World War II.

This was following Japan’s formal apology to the comfort women in South Korea two days ago and its promise to pay 1 billion yen (RM35.66 million) to take care of them.

The Japanese government should acknowledge the fact that Malaysian women, too, had served as comfort women during the war, said MCA Public Services and Complaints Department chief Michael Chong.

Thus, an apology should be forthcoming on the issue, he was quoted as saying by the Sun Daily .

“In view of this, we are seeking payment and justice for the victims who have endured emotional pain during the ordeal,” he said at a press conference today.

He, however said the “goodwill payment” should be be channeled to charities and not for personal use.
