No silver bullet for Harapan, at best a two-party system

Harapan to announce election plans soon
Lone_Star:
Opposition Leader and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has given hope to the rakyat on the first day of 2016.
But do not expect a silver bullet to fix all the mess created by Umno-BN over the past half century. At best, the rakyat can look forward to a two-party system with some checks and balances, and a more transparent government.
But even if Putrajaya can be taken over in the 14th general election, there will be plenty of hiccups and sabotage by the newly-ousted.
It may take many generations to correct the ills in governance, the judiciary, the not-so-civil civil service, the Election Commission (EC), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), etc.
Yes, 2016 is upon us. The first step that has to be taken is whether Pakatan Harapan is ready, and even more important, whether the rakyat are ready?
Sans Blinkers: I hope PKR will get things right in 2016. First, make a definite stand on PAS. Tell us straight whether PKR will maintain or cut ties with PAS once and for all.
Yes, there will be political risks for PKR to cut ties with PAS but if it wants to remain credible and respectable, you just can't be flirting with it.
The PM has lost credibility in the eyes of the voters. Wan Azizah, do you want to be in the same boat?
Roguekiller: Harapan is like a pot of loose sand. It had been months since Harapan had been formed, but till today, there is no common policy established; what exactly is Harapan's ideology?
There is no leader, although Anwar Ibrahim was proposed, but he is in jail, so, who leads the coalition? You have no direction, so to speak; how do you expect to win GE14?
All the three parties must get together, seriously thrash out a common platform, then formulate the Harapan manifesto. Assign a figurehead - a reliable and reputable person.
I suggest Saifuddin Abdullah, surely not Azmin Ali, to lead till GE14 is won; thereafter, seek a royal pardon for Anwar to be released unconditionally. Only after due process, can Anwar take over from Saifuddin.
With all these in place, Harapan can command the confidence of the people, only then can you look forward to capturing Putrajaya. For heaven's sake, don’t harp on getting PAS on board, Harapan would then be as good as dead.
Magic Dragon: On Harapan’s coalition partners, are they prepared to completely cut off ties with PAS and embrace Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM)?
I am sure most fair-minded Malaysians are willing to give the socialist party a chance. It is better to start from a weaker position than be dragged down by the notorious PAS which is armed with evil intents.
Pahatian: Indeed, if the purported document has PAS in it, then Harapan can better forget about unveiling it.
Patriot of Malaysia: Haven't we been here before? A policy framework was drawn up and never saw the light of day. Policy frameworks don't win elections, nor does promises.
The reason Umno-BN is still the government is simple, many, and I mean many, believe they are the better choice, not necessarily the best, but the better choice with the experience needed to keep Malaysia moving forward.
Shanafrica: I am irked with the way Harapan is performing. Look at how Selangor is being administered. Azmin ‘turun padang’ only at the beginning when he took over as MB. Where is he now? Now a Datuk Seri and complacent.
I live in Kajang and I have not seen any good things done for the public convenience since it came to power seven years ago.
The traffic is getting horrible, roadside stalls springing up everywhere, restaurants extending their tables to five-foot-ways and even to the roads, slowing down the traffic.
The outpatient department of the hospital is close to a quarry and all the trucks are spilling dust and debris on the roads. No pedestrian crossings. The only Pakatan state which is worth praising is Penang. Thanks to DAP and Lim Guan Eng.
And Kak Wan, show us what you have done for Kajang residents? The town councillors and the Kajang Municipal Council staff are hopeless as well. Azmin, what happened to your ‘turun padang’ gimmick?
Proarte: Has Wan Azizah commented on the Appeal Court judgment denying a Hindu mother and children their basic constitutional and religious rights?
If she and her family want to convince us that Harapan will actually make a difference to Malaysia, then they have to address the flouting of basic constitutional rights of citizens who are not Malay or Muslim.
Wan Azizah and daughter Nurul Izzah simply are unable to disabuse themselves from Anwar's 'all things to all men' politics. The subtext of their politics is still ‘ketuanan Melayu’ and ‘ketuanan Islam’.
Unfortunately, Anwar and his family see the colonial 'divide and rule' modus operandi as still having a valid role in Malaysia.
The moment they realise that secularism is the only way to bring all Malaysians together as well as to emancipate the Malays from Islamic bigotry and racism will they begin to have a positive impact on Malaysian politics.
At the moment, they are merely good at playing 'victim' and are willing punching bags for Umno.
Sleepy: Change may not be perfect initially since it is a process, but never forget, for change to happen it also requires the participation of the voters.
