Pua trying to get sacked from PAC, Gerakan says

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua seems to be deliberately trying to get himself removed from the Public Accounts Committee by a issuing "biased" statement on 1MDB despite the ongoing probe, a Gerakan MP said.

Calling Pua's bluff, fellow PAC member Liang Teck Meng said this is evident in Pua's Jan 1 statement which made assertions not based on the PAC findings so far.

Liang, who is Simpang Renggam MP, said this shows Pua's "biased opinion" which mars the "impartiality and integrity of the PAC".

"No sane person would try to prejudice and dishonour himself and the PAC in such a manner unless this person has a hidden political agenda that is not based on the truth or on factual evidence.

"This begs the question if this particular PAC member deliberately wants to be suspended or removed from the PAC inquiry into 1MDB by very clearly and repeatedly breaking the standing orders of the Parliament and the PAC?" he asked in a statement today.

He did not name Pua but cited the DAP MP's statement titled 'Expose the crooks behind the multi-billion ringgit scam behind 1MDB which has resulted in tens of billions of ringgit of tax-payers losses'.

By issuing the statement, he said, Pua was "begging to be suspended" so he can "play the victim".

"I advise this particular member to stop playing disgusting dirty politics like this and to honorably discharge your duty as a parliament member and your duty to the public and focus on fact and evidence based investigations and judgement on 1MDB.

"You owe it to your voters to uncover the real truth and not create untrue perceptions, YB. Stop playing games," he said.

The PAC last year issued a gag order on its members from publicly discussing the proceedings of its probe on the state investment company.

Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia earlier told Pua he must resign from the PAC to take part in a public debate against 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy.

Pua, one of 1MDB's most vocal critics, opted to remain on the PAC while PKR MP Rafizi Ramli volunteered to stand in for Pua.

The debate was, however, called off.
