The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said that only those who are convicted of corruption are placed on the MACC's “name and shame list”.

“Responding to a statement by Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah) that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's name be placed on the 'name and shame list', the MACC would like to explain that only those who are convicted in the court are entered into the list,” the graft body said in a statement today.

The database lists out those who had been convicted of corruption, and not those being investigated, the MACC added.

It was reported on Dec 31 that Malaysia had been named by The Washington Post 's foreignpolicy.com, a division under WSJ, as the world’s six “worst corruption scandals (country) of 2015”.

In response, Lim described the listing as a “ shame of shames ”.

“Can Malaysians expect the prime minister, who has brought such unprecedented dishonour at the global level to Malaysia, fully defend himself in his 2016 New Year message tonight?” Lim had asked on New Year's eve.
