Unlike PAS, we uphold promises, says Amanah MP

The spat between PAS and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) continues to rage on with the splinter party hitting back over 'unfulfilled promises'.

Amanah’s Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said that unlike PAS, Amanah upheld its promises and will be loyal to the newly-minted political coalition of Pakatan Harapan.

“You think we are like you? That we will breach the agreement by claiming we never 'agreed to it in our hearts'?

“We uphold promises. May Umno be destroyed,” Khalid tweeted, in response to PAS’ research centre operations director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki.

Mohd Zuhdi last weekend said Pakatan Harapan was unlikely to last because the parties do not commit to the text of their agreement 'in their hearts'.

This means the new opposition coalition will suffer the same fate as Pakatan Rakyat which disintegrated after DAP and PAS started trading barbs over PAS’ theocratic ambitions.

DAP said PAS breached the Pakatan Rakyat agreement by not consulting its partners when it submitted a private members’ Bill to amend a law to allow it to implement hudud (Islamic law) in Kelantan.

“(The Pakatan Harapan agreement) is only written down but each party has its own agenda,” Zuhdi was quoted as saying.

He said the ‘Unity in Diversity’ pledge by Harapan was unrealistic because it was impossible for PKR, DAP and Amanah to agree on everything.

PAS at its Selangor election last weekend continuously attacked DAP and Amanah but spared PKR due to its standing policy of cooperation with the party.

PKR maintains that it will continue to cooperate with PAS despite forming Pakatan Harapan.

PKR said it would be poor strategy to alienate PAS in the run-up to the 14th general election given PAS’ wide Malay-based support.

Umno, too, has been trying to court PAS but this has been frowned upon by the PAS syura council.
