Malaysian children are being groomed as Islamic State (IS) fighters, said Bukit Aman Special Branch director Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Citing intelligence reports, Mohamad Fuzi was reported as saying by The Star today that initial probes found eight children are being trained at IS camps in Syria and Iraq.

“It is not known where they are being placed right now. Maybe some are in Syria and some are in Iraq.

“These children were brought to the war-torn countries by their parents, who are raising them to be IS fighters,” he was quoted as saying.

This comes after reports that two Malaysian suicide bombers killed more than 30 in Iraq and Syria.

Mohamad Fuzi said there are now 47 Malaysian IS members in Syria and Iraq, of which 12 are women.

At least 17 more have been killed overseas while eight others have either returned, been arrested or charged.

Those abroad have refused to heed their families’ pleas for them to return, he said.

“Their ultimate goal is to fight and die as martyrs,” he added.
