If found guilty they can be fined up to RM10,000 or five times the value of the bribe, whichever higher, or up to 20 years' jail.

On Jan 13, deputy land officer Fadly Ab Malek, 35, and deputy director of enforcement, Syed Umar Khalil Syed Khalid, 34, was charged with receiving a bribe from an illegal bauxite miner.

They pleaded not guilty and were released on bail of RM10,000 pending case mention on Feb 5.

The MACC has arrested and quizzed 10 Pahang PTG officers and four others in relation to corruption in bauxite mining.

The mining, which is under three-month moratorium, has enveloped Kuantan and it surrounding areas with red dust and caused health concerns after waterways started turning red.
