‘Kedah Umno imbroglio will ruin BN in S’wak elections’

The timing of the Kedah Umno imbroglio could not be more inappropriate, or wrong for BN with Sarawak - often touted as BN’s stronghold - is set to face its state election soon.

Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin said he received a message from a strong supporter of Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem which pointed out the “wrong timing” in relation to the concerted move to oust Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

Zainuddin said the message made him realise how the Kedah Umno quandary has indeed a relation with Sarawak, which is BN’s self-proclaimed ‘fixed deposit’.

“What more with a person who’s desperate to become menteri besar as well as Najib, who wants to stay as prime minister.

“Of course (this move) doesn’t take into account the feelings of Sarawakians as well as the chief minister’s, and the effects to the Sarawak elections," Zainuddin said in a blog post today.

He related a recent incident in Sarawak that left him red-faced, when a person shouted at him across the road asking when Najib would step down.

“Actually, what’s happening now is the same process which was experienced by the country’s leaders who want to save themselves in their last moments.

“Najib is in panic mode, and he has lost all semblance of sanity with his denial syndrome, although he looks calm."

‘Sympathies to Adenan’

Najib, he said, has forgotten Adenan’s interests and has forgotten how Sarawak is BN’s fixed deposit.

“He thinks only Umno can save him. My sympathies to Adenan Satem,” said Zainuddin.

Kedah Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah on Wednesday initiated an open war against Mukhriz , declaring that the state's Umno rank-and-file has “lost confidence” in the leadership of the Kedah menteri besar.

He also called for Najib to intervene and replace Mukhriz as menteri besar.

Mukhriz is undeniably seen as being targeted because of his father former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's open attempts to remove Najib as prime minister.
