Driver in hit-and-run which killed three Thaipusam devotees arrested
The driver of the car involved in a hit-and-run accident, which claimed the lives of three Thaipusam devotees and left three others seriously injured, along the Seremban-Kuala Lumpur Highway near Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur today, has been arrested.
Kuala Lumpur traffic police investigation and traffic laws officer DSP S Markandan said the 25-year-old suspect was detained after he surrendered himself at the Jalan Bandar Traffic Police Station in Kuala Lumpur.
"The suspect surrendered at 7.20pm tonight and is now under investigation," he told Bernama when contacted tonight.
Asked whether the suspect would be remanded, he said it would depend on the outcome of the investigation.
"If needed, we will ask for a remand order in the near future, but we will investigate him first," said Markandan.
In the 8am incident, the three Hindu devotees, who were walking from Senawang near Seremban to the Batu Caves temple in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate Thaipusam, were killed after a car ploughed into them near Sri Petaling, while three others were seriously injured.
