PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has branded the barring of PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin from entering Sarawak as "an act of cowardice".

"For a lot of us, it's an act of cowardice that Sarawak Chief Minister (Adenan Satem) should resolve to change," she told reporters after flagging off the convoy tour for the 'Free Anwar' campaign at the jailed former opposition leader's official residence in Segambut today.

She lamented that when Adenan came into power, he had promised reform but appears to still be making "undemocratic decisions".

Zuraida was barred from entering Sarawak by the Immigration Department - without being given any reason - when she touched down at the Kuching International Airport at 1.15pm yesterday.

"The moment I checked out, the officer asked me to go the office, saying I was not allowed to enter Sarawak," she said, adding that this is the third time she has been barred from entering the state.

Sarawak has autonomy over its immigration regulations and was previously reported to have barred many opposition leaders and activists from entering the state.

"It's been a very long list, especially for my party," Nurul Izzah noted.

She has also been barred from entering the state before, along with PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

Additionally, DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua and DAP vice-chairperson Teresa Kok have been denied entry into the state, as have former Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan and Bersih steering committee member Wong Chin Huat.

Especially with the Sarawak state elections coming up soon , Nurul Izzah said the chief minister should try to "allow a level playing field".

However, she stressed that this will not stop PKR from trying to improve the lives of Sarawakians - such as through their solar power panel projects and hydro projects.
