PAS Youth wants Husam to resign as assemblyperson
Kelantan PAS Youth today urged former party veep Husam Musa to resign as Salor assemblyperson and Kubang Kerian PAS chief.
This comes after Husam urged PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah to resign if PAS fails to table a Bill in Parliament, to pave the way for the implementation of hudud.
Kelantan PAS Youth chief Fadli Shaari said it is Husam who should resign since he is doing little to strengthen PAS and the Kelantan government, Sinar Harian reported.
Husam should realise he is no longer relevant in national politics, Fadli, who is also PAS Youth information chief reportedly said.
"The fact is, he is only trying to seek attention by urging Mohd Amar and Takiyuddin to resign," he is quoted as saying.
Husam urged the duo's resignation at a forum in Kota Bharu on Friday.
The former Kelantan senior executive council member said the duo should resign because they were involved in discussions with a representative of a federal minister, over the matter.
He said the representative had on March 18, 2015 told the Kelantan government a Bill can be tabled to Parliament to amend the law, and pave the way for the hudud.
The representative then urged PAS president and Marang MP Abdul Hadi Awang to table a Private Member's Bill on this immediately.
Husam claims this meeting and the decision to submit the Bill for tabling was never brought to the PAS central committee.
'Pride and personal agenda'
The law which needs to be amended is the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, also known as Act 355.
The law states that Syariah Courts can only mete out a maximum sentence of six strokes of the cane, a RM5,000 fine or three years' jail.
It must be amended to allow hudud penalties, for the syariah penal code to be implemented in states.
"What was the bigger agenda discussed between the three people? We don't know to this day.
"What is clear is that the people deciding on this matter was not the PAS central committee but these three people," he reportedly said.
Hadi's Bill to amend Act 355 made it to the Dewan Rakyat order paper last year but was never debated because the House was occupied with other matters.
The issue caused the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat, with DAP accusing PAS of not consulting its partners.
It also led to an irreconcilable rift within PAS which saw senior members like former deputy president Mohamad Sabu and former vice president Salahuddin Ayub leaving PAS to form the splinter party, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Responding to Kelantan PAS Youth, Husam said the youth wing lost the plot.
He said the issue is the Bill was brought to Parliament in a hurried and "immature" way, without consulting the party.
"Bringing the matter to Parliament in such a way has altogether killed the roadmap (for the implementation of hudud)," he said in a statement.
"It was a failure. The hurried way it was done was fueled by pride and personal agenda," he said.
