Possibly Dr M’s last card - work with Pakatan

YOURSAY | ‘But he still places his bet on change within Umno as he still loves Umno.’

Unite to save nation, Zaid tells opposition and Umno rebels

Kingfisher: One can empathise with the agony of former law minister Zaid Ibrahim. But the reality is that the orientation of the existing dysfunctional political institutions and the governance culture has been cast into an indomitable and not easily breakable mould for some 30 years now by the BN under Umno.

As a factor of cause and effect the present impasse, despite an international scandal and a consequent national crisis confronting the nation, will be virtually impossible to resolve through dialogue, diplomacy and any ad hoc attempts to form a grouping for a commonality of interests.

The solution perhaps lies in a voluntary relenting of senior positions of dominance held by one or several individuals in the interests of the nation.

Otherwise "advantage" PM Najib Razak, like in a tennis game, will continue. Not to forget that the attorney-general has exonerated him from any blame.

The incapable will have to endure suffering. There is hope however as nothing is permanent and life is, in the final analysis, a measure of time.

Anonymous #12566075: Zaid, I believe many Malaysians agree with your suggestion that Umno discards should sit down with the opposition to form a coalition to remove Najib's gang.

The first person to initiate the coalition is none other than former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad if he really wants a change of government.

But Mahathir still places his bet on change within Umno as he still loves Umno, fearing that Umno will be destroyed after Najib's removal.

Mahathir has to give up his personal agenda and self-interest in order to create a grand coalition to save Malaysia for further destruction.

Anticonmen: The problem is Mahathir, when he was PM, had gradually removed all checks and balances and allowed power to be concentrated in the hands of one person.

The lawmakers in Parliament could not stop this because of their lack of unity among them.

Only the DAP was vociferous and consistent in their stand against dictatorship, and since 1998, PKR and PAS were also sounding the alarm bells, but they could not get the needed cooperation from selfish BN lawmakers.

Malaysia is a failed state due to the negligence, corruption, cowardice, selfishness and dereliction of duty of BN lawmakers.

Voice: The enemy of our enemy is our friend. But those rebels or dissidents should first be honest and prepared to accept the struggle of the opposition. Can they do that?

What's New: If I recalled correctly, DAP leader Lim Kit Siang did offer Mahathir to co-operate and unite as one force to take on Umno.

Mahathir arrogantly turned down the offer. Zaid, does that answer your 'grand ambition'?

All Mahathir needs to say, “let us march together for the common cause to bring down the corrupted leaders from Umno”, and you will see not only from the opposition rallying to his call but 53 percent Malaysians stand ready to do battle with this evil and corrupt Umno PM.

Mushiro: Any effort to unite the forces against Najib is laudable. But Najib is a desperate man and he will use all government resources, including the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the intelligence to stay in power.

The biggest asset on Najib's side is the dumbness of the Malays in Umno and our money at his disposal. Just these two will make it very difficult to fight Najib.

James TCLow: As always, opposition leaders are more magnanimous, they are ever ready to sit down with disgruntled Umno leaders, especially Mahathir, to iron out a deal to save the nation.

The ball is squarely in Mahathir's court.

Saddened by tragedy, driver mulls aiding tiger conservation

SSDhaliwal: It is truly unfortunate that the tiger - which is on our national emblem - is on the verge of extinction, no thanks to our greed, be it deforestation or poaching.

The answer is to build highways for animals, which has been done in Kelantan and Singapore, to allow safe passage either over or under the highways.

Sadly, the design of our highways fails to incorporate this.

Maybe if a politician's child is killed in collision with an animal, then things may change...

Oscar Kilo: Yes, it is really sad that tigers are going extinct due to habitat loss and poaching to feed Chinese demand.

And yet, we continue to spend more money on Chinese pandas than on our own native tigers and tapirs.

Tok Karut: We are definitely not doing enough to protect our endangered wildlife.
