Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar was today urged to provide an update on the 1MDB scandal and the alleged involvement of businessman Jho Low in it.

Former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan said he wants the update on the police report he lodged on the matter on Dec 12, 2014.

Khairuddin wants an explanation, after Khalid said yesterday the police have opened an investigation paper against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad within two days of a police report lodged against Mahathir.

"As a complainant, I have the right to get an explanation from Khalid. Has Low been hauled up for investigation by the police?

"If yes, when? What is the development of the investigation? If not, why not? I lodged the police report quite a while ago," Khairuddin said in a statement today.

Khalid ( photo ) said yesterday investigations against Mahathir are under way, following various police reports lodged against the former prime minister.

Mahathir is being investigated for criminal defamation over a blog posting in which he said attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali would not act against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak because Apandi owes Najib a favour.

Apandi has cleared Najib of wrongdoing over the RM2.6 billion 'donation' found in Najib's personal bank accounts, and RM42 million from state firm SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Khairuddin has, since 2014, lodged various reports, including with international enforcement agencies, on 1MDB.

This prompted ongoing investigations in Singapore, Switzerland, Hong Kong, France and the United Kingdom.

Khairuddin and his lawyer Matthias Chang were subsequently charged with allegedly trying to sabotage the economy through their reports.

They were detained for more than a month under the Security Offences and Special Measures Act (Sosma), and were released after the High Court found they had not committed any security offence.
