G25 spokesperson Noor Farida Ariffin is speaking against the syariah law because she is frustrated by her past inaction, says Syariah Chief Justice Ibrahim Lembut.

"Noor Farida is a frustrated person. All frustrated people are like this.

"When they were in the civil service, they didn't dare say these things.

"When they're retired, and have nothing, they start saying that this, that, everything is not right," said Ibrahim, who is also the Syariah Judiciary Department director-general.

He was responding to a question from a syariah court officer at a dialogue session in Bangi today.

The officer had asked how the Syariah Judiciary Department could counter statements by Noor Farida and others, who claim that syariah laws, such as those on khalwat (close proximity), are unconstitutional.

Noor Farida had said last year that khalwat raids are a violation of privacy and should be reviewed.

However, Ibrahim said public statements such as this would not be entertained.

"There are ways to manage this. So, for us, we will debate this in court. Whatever they want to say, we can debate it in court,” he added.
