IGP, Canberra need not consult us on how to protect its citizens

YOURSAY | ‘They rely on their own sources for information and advise their citizens accordingly.’

IGP on terrorist threat: Why didn't Australia tell us?

Quigonbond: Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, if the Australians consult you, they will not hear the end of you telling them not to issue the advisory, that things are "under control".

The Australians obviously think it would be a pointless exercise. Your effectiveness as an IGP in this episode is very telling as to the kind of respect you are getting from other enforcement agencies, just like how you failed to get a global arrest warrant for Sarawak Report’s Claire Rewcastle-Brown from Interpol.

Perhaps it’s best to reflect that it has to do with how you have failed to investigate the PM over his billions.

Monty: Khalid, the reason for not consulting you should not be a big deal. Countries issue travel advisories for their own citizens, not for other nationals.

The telling thing was your reaction. You should be asking if there are any indicators which you have missed. And then pick up the phone to call your counterparts in Canberra and London.

Can I assume that you have already done all that?

Ib: The IGP shows himself to be more concerned about his pride than the safety of this country. If you need the Australians to tell you what is going on in your own land, then you might as well resign.

JD Lovrenciear: Is it any of our business to tell other nations what and how they want to or should commit to seeing to the safety of their citizens?

It certainly is our business to convince them in real and believable terms how good we are in guaranteeing their safety. That we failed, no?

Odin Tajué: Khalid, you said, "I am disappointed. I think they issued this unilaterally. They did not consult us."

For goodness' sake, if they did not consult you, then they have issued the advisory unilaterally. But you only thought they did.

When the very chief of a country's police says such a thing, his sharpness and vigilance are suspect. The government of another country cannot be too confident of his oversight of security matters.

Australia and Britain must surely be also aware of how you reacted to the invasion of Sabah by the Suluks. Did not the then home minister say something to the effect that they were only old men having a picnic?

But you and the deputy home minister have forgotten how you all have mishandled the situation and the devastating effects that those malnourished old men inflicted on our well-fed young policemen and soldiers.

Don't forget, too, the number of times those Muslim extremists have breached our security and abducted tourists and locals alike. The late Bernard Then losing of his head just three months ago was the latest example of your gross incompetency.

Now, why would anyone want to consult you when you are obviously blurred and incapable?

XED: Foreign governments also warn their citizens who go abroad of such matters as maniacal motorists and motorcyclists, thieving, corrupt and incompetent law enforcement officers, religious officials who raid restaurants and hotel bedrooms, pickpockets and snatch thefts, filthy and unroadworthy taxis, fake goods, public littering, and broken English. Sounds familiar?

Since the feelings of the Malaysian law enforcement and security officers have been hurt, the IGP should tweet a warning to these ignorant outsiders and ask Interpol for an international warrant of arrest against them.

Rick Teo: Dear IGP, the reason they don't want to share this information with you is because they know you are always busy arresting and threatening opposition lawmakers. So there is no point talking to you as you don't have the time to do anything else.

They just don't have faith that you are capable of doing anything in view of your busy schedule protecting PM Najib Razak.

Pemerhati: The whole world knows that the head of the country is possibly lying about getting billions in donations and again lying that he had returned most of those billions.

Then he has a lackey attorney-general who accepts those amazing lies and shamelessly announces the lies to the world and says that the leader has done nothing wrong.

Then you have the IGP who got promoted to become the police chief soon after he was caught lying in the Aminulrasyid Amzah case .

The foreign embassies have officers who report to their governments the real situation in the country. They all would have informed their respective governments about how the top Malaysian leader and his lackey ministers and public servants lie blatantly.

The foreign governments thus do not trust what the Malaysian government says. They rely on their own sources for information and advise their citizens accordingly.

Citizen No.26: Indeed, this implies that Australia does not trust our IGP to protect Australian tourists. IGP should look into the mirror and ask himself why. The reasons are obvious.

Shibboleth: Dear IGP, you don't have to exchange words with the Aussies. You should nail the colours to the mast and prove them wrong. Make sure there is no terrorist attack during your watch.

Vijay47: Why should Australia care a hoot for us, especially when we have an IGP like Khalid? Even Bangladesh does not think much about Malaysia.

I think Malaysia should lodge a diplomatic protest through our high commissioner to Australia, Sirul.
