The Court of Appeal's decision yesterday that politicians cannot sue media for defamation for criticising them in their official capacity has been lauded by several members of the Malaysian Bar Council.

Bar Council members Andrew Khoo and Syahredzan Johan both welcomed this decision, with Khoo saying that it would make it easier for a responsible press to play their proper role as a watchdog.
