Second youth group raps Challenger for slamming PM
Less than 24 hours after youth group Challenger slammed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, a second group has come forward to reprimand it.
The group, which calls itself International WeMalaysia Movement (WeMalaysia), claims to represent youths and students who are currently overseas.
Its chairperson, Mohd Ali Halim Sirat, like former UiTM student council leader Abang Mohd Hafizie Abang Buns, said that Challenger does not represent the voice of Malaysian youths.
Ali said although the group celebrates the right of youths to express their views, the right should be used based on facts instead of merely relying on “conspiracy theories and claims by international media outlets”.
“We are aware of the issues touched upon by Challenger in its statement - that they need to be solved by the government immediately.
“But Malaysian youths should be more positive by proposing solutions using more prudent approaches,” he said.
Admitting that the country is now facing economic problems, WeMalaysia invited Challenger to collaborate through programmes and dialogues to ensure that the spirit of patriotism is increased and that extremist beliefs are rejected by Malaysian youths.
“I want to say congratulations on the formation of Challenger. And just like what you have stated, we, too, share the same aspirations – ‘our love for Malaysia is unparalleled’,” Ali said.
Yesterday, Challenger - which stands for 'Change led by the Young Generation' - said it has lost faith in Najib and his allies as their actions had jeopardised the future of Malaysia.
But youth leaders from various universities led by Hafizie pointed out that Challenger is not an organisation registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) nor is it registered with any university, and therefore does not represent the majority of Malaysian youths.
