Stop bickering about who will replace Najib, says Zaid

Former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim has called for an end to bickering over who will replace Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Instead, he said, the focus should be on getting more people to sign Save Malaysia's Citizens' Declaration, as well plan on how to eradicate corruption and abuse of power in the next government.

"Once this is done, can we all march to the palace to present the declaration to the King?" Zaid wrote in his blog today.

The Save Malaysia movement aims to oust Najib and implement institutional reforms.

However, one of the group's key players, DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang, revealed to Malaysiakini that there's no plan yet on who should become the next prime minister if their plan succeeds.

Zaid says Save Malaysia must show the people that they can put up a united front against Najib, which he says they can prove at his March 27 gathering.

He also dismissed criticisms from Umno that the movement, spearheaded by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, would not last long.

"The Save Malaysia movement is not a fancy idea. It will not soon evaporate, as claimed by Umno leaders," he said.

The Save Malaysia group consists of Umno rebels such as Mahathir, and suspended deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, working together with opposition and civil society leaders.
