INTERVIEW The Save Malaysia team has no game plan on who would replace Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should they succeed to oust him, revealed DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

"I don't think anyone can spell out a game plan as such ... (that) if Najib steps down who would replace him.

"These are situations that we have to deal with collectively as we move along," Lim told Malaysiakini in an interview on Tuesday.

He said this when asked if removing Najib would result in his deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, becoming the next prime minister.

By convention, all of the country's prime ministers since Tunku Abdul Rahman, have been succeeded by the deputy prime minister.

But as to who will succeed Najib if he is overthrown, Lim said there are "all sorts of possibilities" but he declined to elaborate.

For DAP though, he said, their choice for prime minister is still jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

He also dismissed former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir's remarks that Save Malaysia will only replace Najib with a BN prime minister as Mukhriz’ own interpretation.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of a unity government with the Umno rebels.

"These are things to be explored, I can't say yes, I can't say no," Lim said.

'Don't lose hope'

While an end game has yet to be decided, Lim said the next step for DAP and Pakatan Harapan is to create greater awareness about the Save Malaysia campaign and get more people on board.

And while he is unsure if the plan will succeed or fall apart, Lim said hope springs eternal.

"We must continue, we must never give up hope. So long as we are alive, we must continue to hope there can be an improvement.

"Because otherwise once you lose hope, you lose life," he said.

The Save Malaysia campaign includes a citizen's declaration that Lim signed with other opposition and civil society leaders, together with Umno rebels including former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The declaration urges Najib's ouster, and the implementation of institutional reforms.
