Stop beating around the bungalow bush, Guan Eng told
MCA has criticised Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for attempting to divert attention over the controversy surrounding his RM2.8 million bungalow.
"The core consideration of Lim's below market purchase price of the bungalow is not about the contents of its interior, neither is it about whether or not he dares to open its doors for public viewing or whether or not (Umno lawmaker) Shabudin Yahya dares to attend his coffee session
"It is about how Lim managed to buy the below-market price property," said MCA legal affairs bureau chairperson Tay Puay Chan in a press statement.
"We therefore urge Lim to concentrate on answering the key questions and not try to divert public attention," he added.
Tay then listed four questions for Lim to answer, which were:
1. How did he manage to get such a special discount from the previous house owner for the purchase in Penang where land scarcity and sky-rocketing property prices are rife?
2. What is the relationship between Lim and the previous owner?
3. Was there any secret dealing between him and the previous owner, including exchange of benefits and reward in the form of state government resources?
4. Lim mentioned that he was not aware of the market price of the property, but would not the lending financial institution have made available to him about the value when conducting the valuation of its own?
While Lim has denied any wrongdoing, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) revealed that it would probe the matter.
The chief minister had also invited Shabudin, who first made the allegation, to a coffee session in order to hear his explanation but the latter did not turn up.
Yesterday, Lim invited the media for a tour of his residence located in Pinhorn Road.
