Newsmakers take trip down memory lane

Newsmakers yesterday were in a nostalgic mood, with the son of hockey coach Douglas Gomez recalling how his father was allegedly assaulted by the late Johor Sultan Iskandar in 1992.

Brian Gomez shared the painful memory after Sultan Iskandar's grandson Tunku Ismail mentioned how the royal family was treated shabbily during the dark days under Dr Mahathir Mohamad's premiership when the government and royalty clashed in that year.

Tunku Ismail clarified that his trip down memory lane was not directed at Mahathir or any individual, but rather at the federal government in general.

Not to be left out was Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's daughter Nurulhidayah, who recalled how her father was detained under the Internal Security Act during Mahathir's time and was later left on the streets blindfolded .

Pandikar cross swords with Azalina

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia made his displeasure clear against Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman, warning ministers not to usurp his powers .

Azalina said she had no intention to arrogate Pandikar's powers when she cited sub judice concerns in imposing a ban on questions relating to the deposits of RM2.6 billion received by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Pandikar reversed Azalina's ruling, stating that the matter of sub judice with regards to the RM2.6 billion scandal will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Rafizi risks jail with LTAT expose

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli is threatening to release classified documents which will prove the Armed Forces Fund Board's (LTAT) link to scandal-plagued 1MDB, risking two years’ jail under the Official Secrets Act.

Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein dismissed Rafizi's allegation, stating that LTAT cannot be forever responding to the PKR leader.
