IGP says shooting incident at KLIA did not involve M16 rifles

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today said the shots fired in an incident in Chaterfield, KLIA Commercial Centre in Sepang yesterday evening were not from M16 rifles.

He said preliminary investigation found the spent shells found at the scene were of the 9MM type, believed fired from a pistol.

"Let us investigate. We will inform of any development," he told a media conference after attending the 23rd general meeting of the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) in Kuala Lumpur today.

In the incident, which occurred about 8.45pm yesterday, a personal bodyguard of a businessman was seriously injured when shot by two men who were in separate cars.

The victim sustained serious injuries to the back of his right shoulder and was sent to Putrajaya Hospital for treatment and was operated on today to remove the bullets.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department head Mohd Adnan Abdullah said police were still investigating the motive of the incident.

"The victim is also still in shock and cannot give a true picture of the suspects.

"What is important at the moment is to ensure he is in a real stable condition and safe, and only then will we get his statement," he said when contacted.

In the incident which occurred about 8.45pm yesterday, the bodyguard was driving a Mercedes Benz car when two men travelling in two cars fired several shots at him.
