Not right time for a third force, says Syed Husin

INTERVIEW After his release, now retired PKR leader Syed Husin Ali returned to varsity to continue teaching. Restricted by the Universities and University Colleges Act, he still was in charge of PRM’s affairs, but was less active in politics.

In 1990, Syed was elected as PRM president. As Umno infighting deepened, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah left to set up Parti Melayu Semangat 46 and under Syed's leadership, PRM decided to form a coalition with the Kelantan prince to fight against BN.

Unfortunately, the coalition failed and broke up after a few years.
