Gov't in two minds over 'Four Corners' documentary, says Kit Siang

The government seems to be in two minds over the documentary by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) unit ‘Four Corners’, says DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

Lim pointed out how response from the Prime Minister’s Office was that the documentary confirmed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s statement that the money deposited into his personal accounts was a donation from a Saudi royalty.

However, Lim noted, the Foreign Ministry, in a separate statement later, described the documentary as “one-sided” .

On the other hand, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar accused ‘Four Corners’ of being “vindictive” with the arrest of the two Australian journalists.

“The Najib government must make up its mind on the ABC ‘Four Corners’ documentary, instead of coming out with conflicting positions,” Lim said in a statement today.

'Replaced with a bigger scandal'

As for Najib’s statement that his scandals were no more issues as they were resolved, Lim said they were no longer issues as the scandals have been replaced with an even bigger scandal.

“Najib’s RM2.6 billion donation scandal has become history, and we should now talk about Najib’s RM4.2 billion donation scandal,” he added.

This is because, apart from the RM2.6 billion donation as shown in the documentary, US$300 million and RM285 million were transferred to Najib’s personal bank accounts as well.

“Najib has never contradicted these facts and figures, thereby elevating Najib’s RM2.6 billion donation scandal into at least a RM4.2 billion donation scandal.

“Is Najib now confirming that a total of RM4.2 billion in donations have been deposited into his personal banking accounts since 2011?” Lim asked.
