A youth group opposed to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has found that 89 percent of the university students it surveyed are not in favour of the prime minister.

The group, Challenger, surveyed 5,006 students and found that 4,460 of them do not think Najib is a leader with integrity, while only 304 students (six percent) supported Najib, with 242 of them (4.8 percent) being not sure.

A total of 4,586 or 91.6 percent of the students surveyed also did not support the government led by Najib, with the number of those in favour even lower at just 164 (3.3 percent) in favour while 256 (5.1 percent) were not sure.

"(Those surveyed were) Malaysians, all aged between 18 and 30 years who are attending universities in and out of Malaysia.

"The survey was conducted through manual distribution in universities and an Online Google Form," says a press statement issued by Challenger today.

The survey was conducted from March 8 to April 8.

A breakdown of the participants shows that 832 of the students who responded to the survey are from Universiti Teknologi Mara. The others are 761 from International Islamic University; 428 from Universiti Malaya; and 428 from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.

There were also 431 respondents from Universiti Kuala Lumpur; 209 from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak; 227 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; and 464 from polytechnics; 255 from technical colleges; 224 being foreign university students; and 569 from other universities that had less than 200 respondents each.

Challenger previously issued a statement saying the NGO has lost confidence in Najib.

Its spokesperson, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, is also one of the signatories of the ‘Save Malaysia Declaration’ that calls on Najib to resign from the post of prime minister.
